Long-running American institution and dive-bar degenerate sitcom, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, returns for its 17th season this summer, on July 9th. As reported by Comicbook, the show will once again feature a crossover episode with Abbott Elementary. Previously, the Always Sunny cast appeared in the Elementary setting; this time, it seems the roles will be reversed, seeing the school staff joining the clever co-conspirators in Paddy’s Pub over on FXX.
The dive bar dynasty continues to conquer the airwaves as the cast are now household names and have branched out into many different shows across most networks. Kaitlin Olson (Finding Dory, The Heat), who is known for the role of Sweet Dee, has taken starring roles in shows like The Mick on Fox and High Potential over on ABC. Glenn Howerton (Velma, The Mindy Project), who plays the gang’s self-proclaimed leader and condescending mastermind, Dennis, also has his own show, A.P. Bio, on Peacock.
According to Comicbook, the logline for season 17 of Always Sunny, dubbed “The Gang Embraces The Corporate Era,” is as follows: the cast returns “to shamelessly shed their ‘niche’ label for grander aspirations.” The logline continues, “They’ll exploit cross-network promotion to increase market share; they’ll scapegoat one of their own to avoid a PR backlash; they’ll risk everything for a handshake with the Saudis; they’ll bend the laws with side hustles to pad their pockets; and they’ll change everything about themselves to appeal to a broader audience.”
“And sure, like any corporate goon, the Gang craves money and parasitic social privileges. That’s been plain since 2005. But they’re also human beings. They crave love… respect… conditional freedom… constant adulation… histrionic amounts of attention… non-stop gratification… and unfiltered, slaphappy eroticism.”
“In Season 17, they’ll chase down them all.” The season will premiere on FXX July 9th.
