Annie Murphy Compares New Freeform Animated Series Praise Petey To Schitt’s Creek

According to an exclusive with Comic Book, Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek) spoke about the many similarities between her new animated character Petey in  Praise Petey and her role as Alexis Rose in Schitt’s Creek. She also spoke on the overall creative intent of the creator of the series Anna Drezen (Saturday Night Live).  The animated series Praise Petey is scheduled to premiere on Freeform on July 21st. The first two episodes of the series will air on Freeform, with two episodes airing weekly. The series will also be available to stream on Hulu.

Murphy said in the interview,  “I knew that I could do it, because there is such an overlap between those two characters, initially. But I mean, Anna Drezen, who’s the creator of the show, I will do anything she writes, ever. I just think her brain, she’s so funny and so smart and so weird. And I just loved that about [it] as soon as when I read the script. As soon as I saw that she was dating a literal plank of wood, I was like, ‘This is a show for me. I gotta do this.'”

The series deals with the main character Petey dealing with her life taking a full turn as she now must leave her big city life in New York and go to New Utopia. New Utopia is a community founded by her late father, but to her surprise, all inhabitants are part of a cult that believes that she is their prophesied savior. Casting includes Murphy, Eve Plumb (A Very Brady Renovation), Stephen Root (Office Space), Kiersey Clemons (Dope), Christine Baranski (Mamma Mia!), John Cho (Cowboy Bebop), Amy Hill (50 First Dates), and many more.

Praise Petey will premiere on July 21st at 10 p.m. ET on both Freeform and Hulu.
