According to ComicBook, Netflix has canceled the animated series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off after just one season. The animated series was a surprise to many when it premiered as it reunited the cast of the live-action adaptation for a new reimagined storyline. Although at the end of season one, it was teased that there would be more to come from the series it has sadly been canceled after its first installment.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is an animated adaption of the Scott Pilgrim graphic novel created by Bryan Lee O’Malley (Seconds). Before the animated series, the franchise had a live-action adaption as well as a side-scrolling beat ’em up video game.

The cast of the series included many known stars that also acted in the live-action adaptation stars such as Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) as Scott Pilgrim, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane) as Ramona Flowers, Satya Bhabha (Eastsiders) as Matthew Patel, Kieran Culkin (Solar Opposites) as Wallace Wells, Chris Evans (Captain America) as Lucas Lee, Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) as Stacy Pilgrim, Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) as Envy Adams, Alison Pill (Goon) as Kim Pine, Aubrey Plaza (Agatha All Along) as Julie Powers, Brandon Routh (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) as Todd Ingram, Jason Schwartzman (Moonrise Kingdom) as Gordon Goose, Johnny Simmons (Jennifer’s Body) as Young Neil, Ellen Wong (GLOW) as Knives Chau and Mae Whitman (The DUFF) as Roxy Ritcher.

As per ComicBook, although the series went to great lengths to get all the live-action cast to come back for the animated adaption it would be nearly impossible to do the same for a second season. Creator O’Malley went on social media to express his thoughts on cancelation stating that he is hopeful that there will still be fans hopping for more to come from the series.

“It’s been one year since Scott Pilgrim Takes Off came out,” O’Malley began in a statement shared with fans on X. “It was an honor to work with all of the cast & staff around the world. It was like conducting a symphony orchestra every day. From the moment series writer Ben David Granbinski (Happily) sparked the idea, the project felt like a one of a kind miracle.” But then the creator revealed the team was informed the series would not return, “Anyway, we were recently informed that the show will NOT return.”
