Deadline reports that the former leading actress of the Murder, She Wrote original run isn’t very satisfied with the idea of NBC rebooting the show.
“I think it’s a mistake to call it Murder, She Wrote,” said Lansbury, “Because Murder, She Wrote will always be about a Cabot Cove and this wonderful little group of people who told those lovely stories and enjoyed a piece of that place, and also enjoyed Jessica Fletcher, who is a rare and very individual kind of person. (…) So I’m sorry that they have to use the title Murder, She Wrote, even though they have access to it and it’s their right.”
Although she isn’t very pleased with the new show, the eighty-eight-year-old actress praised Octavia Spencer, who’ll be Murder, She Wrote’s new leading lady.
“I saw her in The Help and thought she was absolutely wonderful, a lovely actress. So I wish her well, but I wish it wasn’t in Murder, She Wrote.”
No matter the opinion of Angela Lansbury, the reboot is set to move forward with casting and production. The new storyline is described as “light [and] contemporary” and comparable Bones or Fargo.
