Andy Samberg and Murray Miller are diving back into the sports world for HBO.
According to Deadline, Samberg and Miller are developing sports mockumentary Tour de Pharmacy for HBO with Samberg set to star. This will be Samberg and Murray’s second sports mockumentary for HBO following last year’s tennis mockumentary 7 Days In Hell which starred Samberg, GoT‘s Kit Harington, Fred Armisen and Will Forte.
Tour de Pharmacy, written by Miller (Girls, King of the Hill), will use the mockumentary format to make fun of and examine the excessive doping of athletes in recent years, with a focus on the world of professional cycling. Though the project is still in the casting process, currently locked down to star alongside Samberg are Daveed Diggs, Julia Ormond, Phylicia Rashad, Will Forte, Dolph Lundgren, John Cena, Mike Tyson and Nathan Fielder.
Samberg and Miller’s Tour de Pharmacy marks just one of a few current television projects for Samberg. He can be seen as Detective Jake Peralta on Fox’s Golden Globe and Emmy-winning cop comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine along with Andre Braugher, Joe Lo Truglio, Chelsea Peretti, Dirk Blocker, Joel McKinnon Miller, Stephanie Beatriz, Melissa Fumero and Terry Crews. Samberg, with his Lonely Island cohorts Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, also have multiple pilots in development from their 20th Century Fox TV deal. Samberg and The Lonely Island are also producers with Paul Scheer (Human Giant, NTSF:SD:SUV, The League) on Fox’s late-night sketch show Party Over Here starring comedians Nicole Byer, Jessica McKenna and Alison Rich.
Tour de Pharmacy is written by Miller and will be directed by 7 Days In Hell director Jake Szymanski. Samberg and Miller are producing the mockumentary under their Legends of Sport company. Both Samberg and Miller are also producing with Szymanski, David Bernad and M. Elizabeth Hughes.
