Andrew Garfield To Star As Richard Branson In Upcoming Limited Series ‘Hot Air’

Andrew Garfield (Under The Banner Of Heaven) will be starring as billionaire Richard Branson in an upcoming six-part limited series titled Hot Air, according to Deadline. The site also reported that David Leitch (Deadpool 2) will be directing the upcoming series, which will be based on the book Dirty Tricks by Martyn Gregory (Diana: The Last Days).

Deadline reports that while the show does not currently have a streaming home, there is currently a competitive marketplace with multiple potential suitors in the running for the series. Who those potential suitors are is currently unclear, however.

Hot Air, according to Deadline, will tell the story of Branson and the rise of Virgin Airways, which is Branson’s airline that was launched as Virgin Atlantic in 1984. The upcoming limited series will be written by Jon Croker (Paddington 2), per Deadline.

Garfield is coming off a hugely successful first season of Under The Banner Of Heaven, which streams on Hulu and has earned Garfield an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie. This is Garfield’s first Emmy nomination of his career and the lone nomination for the show. He also made a surprise appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home late last year as he reprised his Spider-Man/Peter Parker role from The Amazing Spider-Man alongside Tom Holland (The Crowded Room) and Tobey Maguire (The Great Gatsby), who both also play versions of Spider-Man/Peter Parker.

Leitch has also been busy as of late as he prepares for the release of Bullet Train, in which he directs and stars the likes of Brad Pitt (Fight Club) and Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side). That film will be released in theaters on August 5th. He’s also known for directing the 2019 Fast & Furious film, Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw.

It’s currently unclear when Hot Air will begin production, be released, or who else will star in the limited series. It is being produced by Universal International Studios.
