According to Deadline, Elsbeth is setting up the stars for its third season that is coming up. So far, they cast Amy Sedaris (At Home With Amy Sedaris, BoJack Horseman), Lindsay Mendez (American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, All Rise), and Andy Richter (Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Madagascar), as guest stars in the premiere episode.

The character Elsbeth Tascioni, played by Carrie Preston (The Good Wife, The Good Fight), is a clever yet unconventional consent decree attorney working with the NYPD to capture New York’s wealthy murderers, utilizing her unique point of view, Deadline states.

Sedaris is playing Laurel Hammond-Muntz, a devoted and willful executive producer and head writer of the well-known late-night talk show Way Late, Deadline notes.

Mendez will play Officer Grace Hackett, who is an aspiring stand-up comic off the clock and a hard-working officer on the clock. She teams up with Elsbeth for a case that is focused on the comedy world, and her knowledge of business becomes very useful, Deadline adds.

Richter is cast as Mickey Muntz, a funny and patient sidekick to Scotty Bristol, a character played by Stephen Colbert (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Bewitched), the host of Way Late. Furthermore, he is Laurel’s husband, Deadline says.

CBS Studios is producing Elsbeth alongside executive producers Michelle King (The Good Wife, Evil) and Robert King (The Good Wife, The Good Fight), co-creators of the series, Erica Shelton Kodish (The Good Wife, Covert Affairs), Jonathan Tolins (BrainDead, The Twilight of the Golds), Liz Glotzer (Bernie, The Mist), Gail Barringer (Luke Cage, A Perfect Murder), and Bryan Goluboff (The Basketball Diaries, Mr. Mercedes). Tolins is serving as showrunner, Deadline states.

Sedaris is an actress, comedian, and best-selling author. Deadline reports she created, wrote, and starred in At Home with Amy Sedaris, an Emmy-nominated show. Moreover, she voiced in the new Smurfs, and can be seen in Life and Beth, Amy Schumer’s Hulu Series, Disney’s The Mandalorian, Somebody That I Used to Know, and Theater Camp. Recent work of hers includes ABC’s Doctor Odyssey and the Paramount+ rebooted Frasier series.

According to Deadline, Mendez is a Tony Award winner and starred in the Broadway revival of Merrily We Roll Along, by Stephen Sondheim (Into the Woods), with Jonathan Groff (Frozen, Hamilton) and Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter series, Miracle Workers). Deadline reports that this production, filmed for theatrical release, is making landfall in theaters on December 5. Additionally, Mendez starred in American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez for Ryan Murphy (Glee, American Horror Story), and she was previously a regular on the CBS/OWN series All Rise.

Deadline finally mentions that Richter is most known for his very long-lasting role as Conan O’Brien’s sidekick and announcer for many late-night shows. He played a massive role as announcer, general sidekick, and writer in The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and later Conan. He can be seen in Hulu’s Love, Victor, and Arrested Development, as well as films Elf, Scary Movie 2, Blades of Glory, Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, Talladega Nights, and Semi-Pro.

The third season of Elsbeth arrives on CBS on October 12. The first two seasons are available to stream on Paramount+.
