Amy Rardin Discusses ‘Echo’ Finale – Spoilers Included

According to Deadline, a writer for the show Echo named Amy Rardin opened up about the finale of the show. Rardin also took the time to discuss Maya’s relationship with Kingpin as well as the Daredevil fight scene. Along with these topics, Rardin was able to elaborate on how they crafted the entire story in only five episodes.

When Deadline asked Rardin about Maya’s scene with her mom in the finale, Rardin said “We talked a lot in the room about exploring your past and confronting your past and healing from trauma. That’s her big trauma, seeing her mother die in front of her. Taloa, as a healer, needed to heal Maya’s heart in that scene in order for her to be able to truly become the person that she is.”

With this in mind, Rardin also elaborated on Maya and Kingpin, saying, “That’s also what prompts her to try and heal Kingpin, which obviously does not work, but I’m so glad that scene is in there.” Deadline had Rardin continue with the conversation surrounding Kingpin, “However messed up their relationship is, Kingpin is obviously a monster, but there is love there, in its own weird way.”

Deadline also made sure to ask about Daredevil in terms of the show and if he would make another appearance. Rardin responded that “I mean, we were really excited to get to use Daredevil, because he’s a very important part of the [Echo] comics. So we knew that we were going to want to use him in a specific way.” She continued with this sentiment, saying, “We were excited about Daredevil. But really what that fight is about is Maya going from student to practical.”

The series, while filled with a complex plot, was short. The entire season spanned only five episodes. Deadline questioned Rardin about this, asking how it was possible to make it so short. Rardin said, “When we were in the room, we weren’t really thinking about the constraints of time. We just wanted to tell the best story we possibly could. That was very freeing, especially having come from some network shows, where you have a very specific time that you have to meet.”
