According to ScreenRant, although many series have slowed down production due to the Writers Guild of America’s strike, it doesn’t seem like Sony’s Silk: Spider Society has been scrapped. With all the hype surrounding the Spiderman universe on the big screen, Sony wants to expand the universe into televised series. With this expansion of the universe, Sony partners with MGM+ to bring together a live-action Silk: Spider Society.
According to TV Line’s latest edition of Inside Line, Silk: Spider Society will continue to move forward and further production once the AMPTP and WGA have reached deal. Currently, The Walking Dead’s Angela Kang (Terriers) is attached as the showrunner, with Phil Lord (Clone High, The Afterparty) and Chris Miller (Stray, Cocaine Bear) working on it as executive producers for the series.
According to ScreenRant, Silk: Spider Society was originally developed to be a feature film by Sony following other characters from the Spider-Man universe that went onto the big screen with films such as Venom, Morbius, Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse, and the upcoming Kraven the Hunter. Instead, the project was taken to the TV division, and this set up a shared universe. As of now, there seems to be no Peter Parker in this universe, or if he will be included in general. It is still unknown if the series and the films will tie into one another to expand the universe that Sony is creating.
Another series in the works for the Sony Spiderman universe is Spider-Man Noir which follows the detective webslinger in the 1930s.
There is an endless possibility of a characters that Sony could add to the live-action series. As of now the Silk: Spider Society premiere date is yet to be determined.
