‘American Horror Story’: John Waters Talks Role In Reunion Season From Ryan Murphy

A cast member for the upcoming season of American Horror Story has teased their role, according to Deadline. Camp film legend John Waters discussed his appearance in the anticipated season from Ryan Murphy that reunites some of the series’ fan-favorite actors.

Deadline reports Waters shared that he plays “a big new part” in the 13th season of the anthology series.

“I’m going to announce tonight something new,” Waters said at a Valentine’s Day performance in Baltimore as reported by the Baltimore Fishbowl. “I can’t say what role but I have a big new part in American Horror Story.”

Waters when on to tell the crowd that he’s “typecast,” joking that he’s “either the devil or Chucky’s father…I’ve always been trying to steal Vincent Price’s career,” Deadline reports.

mxdwn previously reported season 13 is gearing up to be something special with series staple actors Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Jessica Lange all returning. The trifecta of actors were a force in the early seasons, delivering classic characters and performances

Peters has appeared in nine installments of the series, with his final turn in season 10’s Double Feature which saw him playing a mysterious muse for an author who’s inspiration had deadly consequences. Since then, he earned an Emmy win for HBO’s Mare of Easttown, and a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in Murphy’s Monster: Dahmer – The Jeffery Dahmer Story.

Paulson also took a hiatus after 2021’s Double Feature, playing a drug-addicted townie who knew the bay city’s dark secret. Her most notable role was as the modest but powerfully gifted witch, Cordelia, in Coven and its sequel, Apocalypse. Paulson is a repeat collaborator with Murphy outside of the Horror Story franchise. She appeared in two installments of American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson as Marcia Clark, and Impeachment as Linda Tripp. The former role earned her an Emmy win. She also played the lead character in Netflix’s Ratchet, a prequel series about the villainous nurse from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. She appeared in last year’s Hulu mega legal hit, All’s Fair.

Lange has had the longest gap between roles in the franchise, departing as a series series regular after 2015’s Freak Show. She, too, delivered quality performances as Constance Langdon in the debut season, and again in the fan-favorite turn as former Supreme, Fiona, in Coven and Apocalypse.

Other returning cast members include Kathy Bates (Matlock, The Family That Preys), Emma Roberts (AHS: Delicate, Madame Web), Billie Lourd (The Last Showgirl, Monster), Gabourey Sidibe (Precious, Antebellum), Leslie Grossman (The Good Place, Popular) and Angela Bassett (9-1-1, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever). The newest addition will be singer and Wicked actress, Ariana Grande (Sweetner, Positions).
