AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ To Surpass The Comics?

With season six of AMC’s The Walking Dead ending with the arrival of Negan, and subsequently the death of an unknown character, fans are left with unanswered questions until season seven premieres later this fall.

This past week, cast members of the post-apocalyptic world returned to Atlanta, Georgia to began filming the seventh season of the popular zombie show. It was reported by The Spoiling Dead Fans that the death on last season’s finale was one of the first scenes filmed this week.

There are conspiracy theories about each character being the one that ultimately meets Lucille; Negan’s bat. If true to the comics, fans believe that Glenn will be the unlucky one that reaches his end. But the writers of the show have changed comic plots in the past. So Glenn still has a chance!

Carol, for example, committed suicide early on in the comics however in the show she has become one of the most powerful characters. And just this past season, Denise took an arrow to the eye that was meant for Abraham. So it’s not unreasonable for the writers to change details from the comics.

The question that seems to be circulating at the moment however is whether or not the hit show will outpace the number of comics written.

Polygon reported that Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead, doesn’t believe so. Although the last eight episodes of the recent season jumped from issue #75 to issue #100, it has taken AMC six seasons to reach issue #100 of the series.

At the end of each comic issue, Kirkman addresses questions in what is titled ‘Letter Hacks’. In a recent ‘Hack’, when asked about the possibility of the show catching up with and then surpassing the comic, Kirkman said,

“Yeah, look at it this way … it took us six seasons to get to 100. It won’t take us 6 years to get to 200 and that will take us to season … TWELVE. And we’ll still be ahead of the show by that point.”

This is quite a relief for many fans, myself included, as just recently we saw this same situation happen with the Game Of Thrones’ series. With such an intensive and in depth author writing the books, George R.R. Martin has been trying to stay ahead of the Game Of Thrones’ filming schedule but was unsuccessful in doing so.

Thankfully, Walking Dead fans no longer need to worry about that possibility. Now we just have to wait until October to get answers to the rest of our questions… Can we just make time go by a little faster please?!
