AMC Networks and BBC America’s long-awaited Orphan Black sequel series has set a premiere date. During this week’s IGN FanFest, the networks announced the delayed series would arrive in June. Accompanying this announcement was an exclusive clip showcasing three minutes of the series starring Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones, Breaking Bad). View the video below.
Orphan Black: Echoes will follow a group of women set in the same universe as the original SyFy series. In a world where scientific manipulation is the latest technological breakthrough, Ritter stars as Lucy, a woman who subdues a secret past from the world, even the man she loves. Joining Ritter are Amanda Fix (North of Normal, High School) and Ava Jogia (Choose Love, Tut).
Fix’s character is one of the women in the central plot. She will play a young teen named Jules. A little rough around the edges, Jules has been recently adopted by wealthy parents as she’s at the age of self-discovery. Jogia’s character, Jack, is a single father and former army medic who has centered his life on providing for his family and supporting his girlfriend, Lucy.
The series is based on the original Orphan Black which starred Tatiana Maslany as a woman who discovers she is the original of several clones. The role, including the clones she played, earned Maslany the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2015.
The original series’ co-creator John Fawcett (The Dark, Ginger Snaps) is attached as director and an executive producer. Anna Fishko (Fear the Walking Dead, Pieces of Her) will play multiple roles as well as creator, writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Boat Rocker will produce the series with executive producers Ivan Schneeberg (Being Erica, The Next Step) and David Fortier (The Pool Date, Dino Ranch). They are joined by Kerry Appleyard (Killjoys, M.I.High), Katie O’Connell Marsh (Invasion, Beacon 23), and Nick Nantell (8-Bit Christmas, Center Stage).
