AMC Networks has unveiled the full trailer for the third season of its 1970s period crime series, Dark Winds. Per the official press release, the expanded season will have eight episodes and premiere on March 9, 2025. View the trailer and exclusive first-look images below.
The new season continues six months after the events of season two, which found Zahn McClarnon’s Lt. Joe Leaphorn (The Son, Westworld, Fargo) and Kiowa Gordon’s (The Red Road, Roswell, New Mexico) Jim Chee chasing a crazed assassin targeting victims on the reservation. The new case has the duo seeking to find two missing boys with little evidence other than blood stains and an abandoned bicycle. Meanwhile, Bernadette Manuelito, played by Jessica Matten (Rez Ball, Tribal, Burden of Truth), is bombarded with a possible human trafficking case 500 miles away from the life she left behind. The series also stars Deanna Allison (Accused, Edge of America) as Emma Leaphorn and sees A. Martinez (Longmire, Days of Our Lives) return as Scarborough Police Department Acting Chief Gordo Sena
According to AMC, McClarnon, Gordon, and Matten are joined by new guest stars for the third season: Phil Burke (Hell on Wheels, Rabbit Hole) as Michael Halsey, Tonantzin Carmelo (La Brea, The English) as Border Patrol Agent Eleanda Garza, Jenna Elfman (Dharma & Greg, Fear the Walking Dead) as FBI Special Agent Sylvia Washington, Bruce Greenwood (The Fall of the House of Usher, The Resident) as Tom Spenser, Christopher Heyerdahl (Under the Banner of Heaven, Hell on Wheels) as Dr. Reynolds, Derek Hinkey (American Primeval, Americana) as Shorty Bowlegs, Alex Meraz (The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Walking Dead) as Border Patrol Agent Ivan Muños, Raoul Max Trujillo (Mayans M.C., Blue Beetle) as Budge, and Terry Serpico (Law & Order SVU, Yellowstone) as Border Patrol Senior Chief Ed Henry.
Created by Graham Roland (The Returned, Almost Human), the series is based on the Leaphorn & Chee novels written by the late author, Tony Hillerman (Listening Woman, Blessing Way). A project years in the making, executive producers include film star Robert Redford (The Sting, The Legend of Bagger Vance) and Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin. Additional producers include Chris Eyre (Smoke Signals), Tina Elmo (The Mustang, Sex and the City), Jim Chory (Heroes, Jessica Jones), Vince Gerardis (Game of Thrones, Jumper), Anne Hillerman, McClarnon, and showrunner John Wirth (Hell of Wheels, Hap and Leonard).
The third season of Dark Winds arrives on Sunday, March 9 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC and AMC+. Both seasons are available to stream on AMC+ and as part of Netflix’s AMC Collection.
