The Finnish period drama Shadow Lines will be joining the ranks of the AMC streaming platform Sundance Now, according to Deadline. Created by Kirsti and Katri Manninen, the mother-daughter duo’s series is set in the Cold War as Finland is stuck in between influences from the Soviet Union and the United States. Centering on Helsinki, global powers such as the US’ CIA and Soviet’s KGB converge on the neutral country that separates Western Europe from the Soviet’s control through the eyes of Helena, a student returning home who is tasked with stopping external actors meddling in the upcoming election. Entitled Nyrkki in the Finnish Language, the thriller period-piece has amassed a total of ten episodes in its first season run after its 2019 premiere.
The series stars Emmi Parviainen (Sunset Riders) as main character Helena Korhonen, Sampo Sarkola (The Eternal Road, Things We Do for Love) as Olavi Suominen, Katja Küttner (Princess, Look of a Killer) as Aune Lyytinen, Samuel Vauramo (The American) as John McCadden, and Jessica Grabowsky (8-Ball) as Tabe Slioor among many more stars. Currently, the series’ first season is available to stream in its entirety on Pluto TV after being produced by and debuted on the Finnish streaming service, Elisa Viihde.
AMC’s streaming platform Sundance Now offers seven day free trial of its services with subscriptions starting at $4.99 per month. Sundance Now can be viewed through Amazon Prime Video with content including original television series, documentaries, and films. Currently, Shadow Lines is in development of its second season although there is no confirmed date attached to its season two premiere. Check out its first season trailer below:
