Amazon TV’s ‘Jack Ryan’ Series To Star John Krasinski

John Krasinski will be the next actor to tackle the role of Jack Ryan, Deadline reports.

The show, simply titled Jack Ryan, will be a new, modern take on the CIA agent protagonist from a series of Tom Clancy novels including The Hunt for Red October and Patriot Games. Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel, Colony) and Graham Roland (Fringe, Lost, Almost Human) will be working on the project. The show is being produced by Paramount TV, Skydance TV and Michael Bay’s company Platinum Dunes.

It is important to note that Jack Ryan has a series commitment at Amazon, so while there is a good chance it will go straight-to-series now that Krasinski has become attached, it has not officially been greenlit yet.

John Krasinski, probably most well know as lovable Jim Halpert from The Office, makes his return to television after doing a slew of movies including Monsters University, The Wind Rises, Aloha and Michael Bay’s 13 Hours. He is also directing and starring in a new feature called The Hollars with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Charlie Day and Anna Kendrick.

Krasinski, according to Variety, has been the number one choice in Cuse’s mind since beginning the project. The role of Jack Ryan that Krasinski will be taking over has been portrayed in movies in the past by people like Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine. The Paramount movie franchise includes five movies and first started in 1990 with Baldwin in John McTiernan’s adaptation of The Hunt for Red October. It will be interesting to see how the transition to TV pans out.
