Amazon Prime’s ‘Rings of Power’ Starts Production for Season Two

With a few episodes left in the first season, fans are waiting for more news regarding the show. According to The Hollywood Reporter, season two of Rings of Power has started production in the United Kingdom.

This is a change from the first season which was filmed in New Zealand, much like the Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit trilogy) movies. It took eighteen months to film the first season of Rings of Power, which was filmed during the pandemic.

Amazon Prime decided to move the production to the U.K. because the company thinks it’s more economical. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon spent half a billion dollars on making the first season. The second season being filmed in the U.K. will lower costs. Another reason to move locations is that Amazon Prime is establishing a multi-show hub in the area.

The series is based on the Appendices written by J.R.R. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit) and it recounts the events that occurred in the Second Age. The show follows different perspectives of different characters. One of the characters the show focuses on is a young Galadriel played by Morfydd Clark (His Dark Materials, Saint Maud). The show follows her path for revenge against the dark forces of Middle Earth and the alliances she forms in hope of getting help to defeat the enemy.

Another character perspective is that of Arondir played by Ismael Cruz Cordova (Berlin Station, Settlers). Arondir is an elf that works at a watchtower and must venture into the nearby human towns for information. His secret is that he has fallen in love with the apothecary of one of the towns. And when orcs start attacking the human towns, he must find a way of getting his love, and the rest of the humans, to safety.

The show also follows a young Elrond played by Robert Aramayo (The King’s Man, The Empty Man) as he works on an alliance of elves and dwarves. Another character that the show follows is Nori Brandyfoot played by Markella Kavenagh (My First Summer, The Gloaming). She is a Hardfoot (similar to a Hobbit) and her life changes when a strange man falls from the sky. While Elrond and Nori are important characters in the show, they haven’t appeared in the last few episodes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon Prime announced that a new character will join Rings of Power in its second season. The new character is called Círdan and is described as one of the oldest and wisest of the elves. The character has not been cast yet.

With two episodes left in the first season, don’t forget to watch Rings of Power on Amazon Prime.
