According to Deadline, the Amazon Prime Video thriller The Terminal List has been renewed for a second season. The drama stars Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Parks and Recreation), Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians, Fresh Off the Boat), Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Friday Night Lights), Riley Keough (Daisy Jones & The Six, Mad Max: Fury Road), Arlo Mertz (Lucy in the Sky, Wilding), and Emmy award nominee Jeanne Tripplehorn (Basic Instinct, Criminal Minds).
Season one of The Terminal List was adapted from Jack Carr’s #1 New York Times bestseller of the same name and followed a former Navy SEAL officer — James Reece, played by Pratt —who investigates why his entire platoon was ambushed during a high-stakes covert mission, says IMDB. Season two will be based on Carr’s novel True Believer.
News of the renewal came alongside news of a prequel in the works. This untitled spinoff will expand the growing Terminal List franchise and center on Ben Edwards, who is portrayed by Kitsch. Deadline describes the prequel as an elevated espionage thriller that takes viewers on Edwards’ journey from Navy SEAL to CIA paramilitary operator, exploring the darker side of warfare and the human cost that comes with it.
It will feature Pratt’s James Reece and Ernest “Boozer” Vickers, who appeared in the first installment by former Navy SEAL and series producer Jared Shaw (The Tomorrow War, The Warfighters), and new characters Mohammed Farooq and Raife Hastings. The prequel series will be co-created by Carr and The Terminal List executive producer and showrunner David DiGilio (Eight Below, Strange Angel).
Kitsch will also serve as an executive producer on the show alongside Pratt through Indivisible Productions.
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon and MGM Studios, spoke of the new development, via Deadline: “The phenomenal summer debut of The Terminal List is a testament to the creativity of Jack Carr, David DiGilio and Chris Pratt along with the cast and teams who delivered such an original and compelling series. With the second season of The Terminal List and Prime Video’s new prequel series starring the amazing Taylor Kitsch, we are expanding on the storytelling and characters beloved by so many all over the world.”
