As the premiere day approaching, Amazon Prime Video dropped the official trailer for its upcoming fantasy series, The Wheel Of Time, via Entertainment Weekly. The trailer is different from the traditional ones as it provides viewers a brand new watching experience: a virtual three-dimensional view.
Compared to a two-dimensional video, the 3-D trailer allows viewers to use 360 players to peek to the right and the left of the sight, thus discovering more details and surprises during this process. For example, if you turn to the left, you will see waves of white energy representing the magical “channeling” performed by members of the all-female mystic order known as the Aes Sedai, while looking at the right shows the black energy of the villainous Dark One.
The Wheel of Time is one of the most popular and enduring fantasy series of all time, with more than 90 million books sold worldwide. The television series will be based on the novel and feature the story of Moiraine, a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. Accompanied by five young men and women, she embarks on a dangerous, breath-taking adventure, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity. As a powerful figure, she has to devote her special abilities to protect her fellows from the dark ones.
The trailer introduces us to the Moiraine portrayed by Rosamund Pike. An award-winning actor, Pike is known for her brilliant performances from Gone Girl and I Care A Lot. We see Pike’s Moiraine showcase her special power and gather five youngsters to fight against the Dark One. The five characters are portrayed by Madeleine Madden (Dora and the Lost City of Gold), Josha Stradowski (Gewoon Vrienden), Barney Harris (Starboy), Marcus Rutherford (Obey), and Zoë Robins (Power Rangers Ninja Steel).
Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television co-produced this series. Rafe Judkins serves as the executive producer and showrunner of the show as he adapts the novel for television. He earned credits for working at projects such as My Own Worst Enemy, Chuck, and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Along with Judkins, Larry Mondragon (Day Zero: The Series) and Rick Selvage (Arrivederci) of Iwot productions, Mike Weber (Beirut), Ted Field (Revenge of the Nerds) of Radar Pictures, Darren Lemke (Lost), Marigo Kehoe (The Crown), and Uta Briesewitz (XX/XY) will also serve as executive producers.
The show is set to launch on Friday, November 19 with the first three episodes. Then a new episode will be available each following Friday until the show concludes on December 24. As for now, Amazon has already renewed the show for a second season.
