Amazon Prime To Develop ‘Sausage Party’ Into Series Adaptation

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Amazon Prime is developing a series adaptation of the R-rated animated comedy, Sausage Party. The show will function as a continuation of the 2016 film, operating under the title of Sausage Party: Foodtopia and will have eight episodes in its first season.

Currently, several members of the original Sausage Party voice cast are slated to reprise their roles from the movie, including: Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express, Pam & Tommy), who also executive produced the film, as well as Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live, Ghostbusters), Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Arrested Development), and Edward Norton (Fight Club, The Incredible Hulk).

Other noteworthy actors from the original cast, including: James Franco (The Disaster Artist, 127 Hours), Jonah Hill (Superbad, The Wolf of Wall Street), and Salma Hayek (Eternals, House of Gucci) have yet to be confirmed for a return. However, this may be liable to change as production continues.

As the Hollywood Reporter writes, Sausage Party: Foodtopia will be executive produced by Ariel Shaffir (Future Man, This is the End) and Kyle Hunter (The Night Before, The Interview) who also served as both writers and producers on the original Sausage Party alongside Rogen and Evan Goldberg (Good Boys, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising). Rogen and Goldberg will also executive produce Sausage Party: Foodtopia with Shaffir and Hunter, as well as James Weaver (An American Pickle, Long Shot), Alex McAtee (Game Over, Man!, Black Monday), Patrick Chu (The Founder, Kill Switch), Andrew Millstein (The Princess & the Frog, Big Hero 6), and Megan Ellison (Zero Dark Thirty, American Hustle). Ellison herself also served as a producer on the original 2016 film.

Conrad Vernon, who co-directed Sausage Party, will return as supervising director and will also serve as an executive producer for the show. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the storyline for Sausage Party: Foodtopia is currently being kept under tight wraps.
