Amazon Orders Series Based on ‘Hanna’, Written by ’Night Manager’ Writer

According to a report by Variety, Amazon Studios has ordered a television series based on the 2011 feature film Hanna. David Farr, the writer of the 2011 film as well as last year’s BBC / AMC hit series The Night Manager, is writing the series. Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements will executive produce.

The story revolves around a sixteen-year-old girl who was raised by her father in the wilderness of northern Finland, to be the perfect assassin is dispatched on a mission across Europe, tracked by a ruthless intelligence agent and her operatives. The film received positive reviews, although it didn’t do exceptionally well at the box office.

Michael Edelstein, president at NBCUniversal International Studios, said the following about the upcoming series:

“From the moment JoAnn Alfano and I saw Hanna it was evident that the film would make an incredible TV series. Fortunately, David Farr felt there was more Hanna story to tell and wanted to revisit this extraordinary world. We’re excited to be in business with David, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements who share our passion for this compelling story. The team at Amazon have been incredibly supportive and we are delighted this show will air on a platform that continues to generate exceptional content.”

The 2011 film was directed by Joe Wright, and starred Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana, Michelle Dockery, Tom Hollander, and Cate Blanchett. The story was developed by Seth Lockhhead, while he was still a student at Vancouver Film School. Originally Danny Boyle and Alfonso Cuaron were considering directing the feature film.

Stay tuned for more details on Amazon’s upcoming tv series.
