Amazon Orders ‘Lore’ Podcast For New Series

A well-paced horror is everything we need for the beginning of October. The intensely suspenseful American Gothic has recently finished up its thirteen episode run, and American Horror Story is already well underway for the Halloween season. What more could a horror-buff need?

According to a report by Variety, Amazon is hoping to fill a place in our dark hearts with its new series based on the podcast Lore. The audio program was created by Aaron Mahnke back in March of 2015, when he began to tell audiences the real beginnings to myths such as vampires, witches, and even serial killers. It quickly gained a massive audience and thrust Lore into the haven of podcasts, eventually stirring up the interest of the Amazon team.

Lore, the new Amazon series, will have the same name and cover the same supernatural topics audiences love and fear. The series will be executive produced by Gale Ann Hurd (who previously worked on The Walking Dead), Howard T. Owens (The Biggest Loser), Ben Silverman (The Office), Brett-Patrick Jenkins (Face Off), and of course Aaron Mahnke is also credited as an executive producer. Glenn Morgan will be heading the series as Lore‘s showrunner.

“Being a horror aficionado, Aaron Mahnke’s Lore podcast captivated me from the very beginning as it explores the terrifying truth behind the world’s most frightening legends,” said Gale Ann Hurd. “And just as Mahnke revolutionized the serial podcast, Amazon is reinventing the unscripted series—and I couldn’t be more excited about the mashup.”

Amazon’s Lore has been ordered an initial ten episode season, and development is working quickly for its premiere. Lore is expected to air for Amazon Prime members worldwide as early as 2017.

But Amazon Prime members beware–since the series is still set to keep its spooky roots, easily frightened members have been warned by Conrad Riggs, head of unscripted Amazon Originals:

Lore is a thrilling podcast with a rabid following, and we jumped at the opportunity to work with Gale Anne Hurd, Ben Silverman and Howard Owens to develop it into a series for Amazon Prime members. The series will be a truly unnerving and exciting experience that Prime members will not forget.”
