Amazon MGM Studios is developing a television adaptation of author Melinda Leigh’s (She Can, Morgan Dane, Bree Taggert) upcoming crime thriller novel The Courier. According to ScreenRant, Blindspot creator Martin Gero (Stargate Atlantis, Quantum Leap, Bored to Death) is developing the project.
The Courier follows Daisy, a diplomatic courier who is framed for a plane explosion intended to kill her and conceal a stolen package. Forced to go on the run, Daisy travels across Europe while attempting to clear her name, remain hidden and uncover the truth behind the conspiracy.
The adaptation is based on a concept from Gero, who will serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer through his production company Quinn’s House. The company currently has an exclusive deal with Amazon.
Liz Pelletier (Fourth Wing, Windy City, The Marriage Bargain) and Sherryl Clark (The Gorge, Cloverfield, Fourth Wing) will also executive produce through Premeditated Productions, while Julie Jarmon (Fourth Wing, Windy City) will serve as a co-executive producer.
Leigh is a bestselling author who has published more than 40 thrillers. Her previous work includes the She Can, Midnight, Scarlet Falls, Morgan Dane and Bree Taggert series. Leigh has also received two Silver Falchion Awards and three Golden Leaf Awards and has earned two RITA Award nominations and an International Thriller Award nomination.
Gero previously created NBC’s Blindspot, which ran for five seasons and 100 episodes. The series starred Jaimie Alexander (Thor, Kyle XY, Loki), Sullivan Stapleton (300: Rise of an Empire, Strike Back, Animal Kingdom), Rob Brown (Finding Forrester, Coach Carter, Treme), Audrey Esparza (Power, Blue Bloods, Public Morals) and Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us, Critical Role, Growing Pains).
In addition to Blindspot, Gero served as a showrunner on Stargate Atlantis and worked on all three seasons of HBO’s Bored to Death. He also served as an executive producer, writer and showrunner on NBC’s Quantum Leap reboot and co-wrote and produced the 2020 film The Lovebirds.
The Courier novel is scheduled to be released in March 2027. Casting and a potential release date for the television adaptation have not yet been announced.
