Amazon Studios has cast Alan Ritchson (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) in the lead role for their upcoming Jack Reacher series, as reported by Deadline. Season 1 of the show will be adapted from Lee Childs first novel in the Jack Reacher series, The Killing Floor.
Child’s Jack Reacher is conceived as a 6’5″ 210 to 250 pound retired military veteran whose suspicions lead him on investigations that frequently get him to dangerous situations. To date, the book series has sold over 100 million copies worldwide, and has already been adapted into a pair of movies that star Tom Cruise (Mission Impossible) as the the titular hero. Now, Ritchson, who stands at 6’4″ and weighs 235 pounds, is set to lead the series and the choice has already been lauded by fans due to his closer physical likeness to the fictional character than the previous movie iteration.
The first season of the Jack Reacher will be written and showrun by Nick Santora (Prison Break), who is under an overall deal at Skydance TV. Santora will executive produce on alongside Child, Don Granger (Gemini Man), Scott Sullivan (Scorpion), Christopher McQuarrie (Edge of Tomorrow), and David Ellison (World War Z) and Dana Goldberg (I Am Legend) for Skydance. Amazon Studios, Sykance Television and Paramount Television will produce.
“Lee Child has created an incredible character and world,” said Santora previously in a statement found via Variety. “It will be the goal of every writer, producer, actor, executive and crew member to capture the essence of Mr. Child’s books – and luckily Lee has been there, and will continue to be there, to help guide us along the way in this series. He is the pulse of Reacher.” Added Child, “It’s been great so far, but really, the fun starts here. By now I know these guys, and Reacher is in the perfect hands, believe me” (Variety).
Ritchson previous television roles include Thad Castle on the Spike TV series Blue Mountain State, Hank Hall, a.k.a. Hawk, on the DC Universe series Titans, and Aquaman on the WB series Smallville. He currently stars as Hank Hall, a.k.a. Hawk, in the DC Universe series Titans.
