Prime Video Announces Cast for Series Adaptation of ‘Cruel Intentions’

Deadline reports that Amazon has set the main cast for the series adaptation of the 1999 film Cruel Intentions. The lead actors are Zac Burgess (Bring Me Back, Totally Completely Fine), Sarah Catherine Hook (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, First Kill), and Myra Molloy (He’s All That, Halfworlds). Series regular cast members include Sara Silva (The Boys, Sleepaway Slasher), John Harlan Kim (The Librarians, Pandora), Khobe Clarke (Yellowjackets, Firefly Lane), Sean Patrick Thomas (Till, Barbershop), and Brooke Lena Johnson (You, The Crying Dead).

The series is produced by Original Film, Amazon Studios, and Sony Pictures Television and is written created by Sara Goodman (Gossip Girl, I Know What You Did Last Summer) and Phoebe Fisher (Assassination Nation, Elementary). It is set in Washington D.C. and is set to be released on Prime Video.

The 1999 movie was written and directed by Roger Kumble (Beautiful Disaster, After We Collided) and starred  Selma Blair (Hellboy, Legally Blonde), Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Scooby-Doo), Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies, Just Like Heaven), and Ryan Phillippe (Big Sky, Secrets and Lies). It is a modern retelling of Les Liaisons dangereuses, the 1782 novel by Choderlos de Laclos (De l’education des femmes, Oeuvres Completes).

The series will be executive produced by Neal H. Moritz (Fast X, Fast Five), who produced the 1999 film. Along with Moritz, Pavun Shetty (The Boys, S.W.A.T.), Bruce Mellon (The Skulls, Prom Night), Andrea Iervolino (Here and Now, Waiting for the Barbarians), and Monica Bacardi (Eddie & Sunny, The Walls of Bergamo). The pilot will be written by Fisher and supervised by Goodman, who will be writing the series together.

In the series, two ruthless step siblings are willing to do anything to stay on top of the Greek life hierarchy at an elite college in Washington, D.C. After the entire Panhellenic system is threatened by a brutal hazing incident, they are ready to do whatever is necessary to preserve their power and reputation, even seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States.

Hook will portray Caroline Merteuil,  the queen of Delta Phi. Burgess will play Caroline’s stepbrother, Lucien. Molloy will play the daughter of the Vice President of the U.S. and respectable young woman, Annie. Silva will play Caroline’s right hand at Delta Phi, Cece. Thomas will play Professor Chadwick. Johnson will play leader of the anti-Greek movement at the university and reporter for the school paper, Beatrice. Kim will play senior member of Alpha Gamma, Blaise, who knows everything about everyone. Clarke will play new recruit for Alpha Gamma and son of a congressman, Scott.
