According to Comicbook, The Amazing World Of Gumball will be receiving a follow-up called The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, and the show’s creator has promised answers to the original’s cliffhanger ending. The show initially ended its run on Cartoon Network in 2018, and the sequel will bring back much of the creative team behind the original.
Comicbook reports the original series ended its run with Gumball’s mortal enemy, Rob, returning from his imprisonment in the Void, claiming that he must transform the town to save it from his prison. The show ends before the transformation occurs, and fans were left reeling. Creator Ben Bocquelet (Welcome To Elmore, The Gumball Chronicles) told Paste that he wants fans to “earn it’ when speaking of the aforementioned cliffhanger.
Via Comicbook, “It’s a really lovely episode and I think it puts a twist on things that’s quite exciting.” Bocquelet stated. The creator may be toying with the fans a little, but the excitement is palpable, as the Void was a story element that hooked many fans of the original. An answer to this long-running mystery could mark a new beginning and a fitting start to the sequel. Fans can rejoice that it will not be long until the new series is gracing our screens.
According to Comicbook, the series will premiere on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ on July 28th in the US. Fans in EMEA, Latin America, and APAC can enjoy the series on October 8th via HBO Max and Cartoon Network. The new series will effectively take the place of Season Seven. Bocquelet will return as creator and executive producer. Matt Layzell (Pink Malinky, Sanjay and Craig) and Erik Fountain (Close Enough, Craig Of The Creek) will serve as executive producers and series directors. Xav Clarke (Red Hearing, Elliot From Earth) will compose for the series with Joe Sparrow (The Owl House, Amphibia) as art director.
Via Comicbook, the voice cast will have both new and returning faces. The titular protagonist and his brother Darwin will have new voices with Alkaio Thiele (Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, I’ll Be There) as Gumball and Hero Hunter (Young Dylan, Lessons In Chemistry) as Darwin. The youngest sibling, Anais, will also be getting a fresh update with Kinza Syed Khan (Bartwheels, Ghee Happy) being cast in the role. Teresa Gallagher (Cars 2, The Jacket) and Dan Russell (Tulipop Tales, Elliot From Earth) will return as Nicole and Richard Watterson.
Comicbook reports Hulu and Cartoon Network said this in anticipation of the new series. “Welcome back to Elmore, where the laws of reality are a joke, and family life is anything but ordinary. Whether he’s battling an evil fast-food empire, facing off against a sentient AI in love with his mom, or trying to stop Banana Joe from wearing pants —Gumball Watterson drags his brother Darwin, sister Anais, and the rest of the town of Elmore along for the ride. With even wilder stories, bigger twists, and surreal humor, the show is so amazing that they had to rename it!”
