Marvel’s Jeph Loeb led an action-packed panel at Comic-Con 2018 teasing numerous developments for the second season of its Netflix series Iron Fist. Chief among the revelations is that Alice Eve (Star Trek, She’s Out of His League) will be playing the legendary character with multiple personalities, Typhoid Mary. The panel unveiled numerous clips from the show highlighting a vastly improved effort in terms of fight choreography.
Star Finn Jones (Danny Rand) had several clips showing frenetic punch-for-punch action, as did the show’s breakout supporting star Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing). Henwick particularly revealed Simone Missick’s, Misty Knight, would be joining her in this season and formally uniting the comic book team, The Daughters of the Dragon. Misty and Colleen are fighting together, but then they break off into separate battles. Misty uses her metal arm to knock an assailant off a motorcycle, while Colleen fights off two other skilled women inside. In one of the clips shown at Comic-Con, Eve beating up both Misty and Colleen while brandishing machetes. Also, Eve said that her character will indeed be a schizophrenic.
At the panel Henwick said, “Seeing these two badasses together, I think these fans are going to love.”
They also released a teaser trailer for the upcoming season. In the trailer it reveals the release date for the second season, September 7th. Here’s the trailer:
Season two will be a transition for Danny. While in the first season it was more focused on a coming of age type of story for Danny, this season will be focused more on protecting his city. Now that Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, (Charlie Cox) is no longer in Hells Kitchen he has to step up and be that protector. In the synopsis it states, “But a sinister plot twist threatens his very identity and he must conquers his villains to protect the town and people he holds close to his heart.”
There was another clip the showed a flashback of K’un-Lun. Danny and Davos (Sacha Dhawan) are battling it out to find out who will face the dragon and become the Iron Fist. During the fight, both had yellow masks, and at the end of the fight they are both covered in blood. In another clip Davos’ fist lighted up, which Loeb says is a tease for the fans. The power is akin to the Iron Fist ability. Just to speculate on what this tease could possibly mean is, this might be the reveal of the supervillain, the Steel Serpent. The Steel Serpent has a red fist just like the one in the clip.
Suffice it to say, season 2 of Iron Fist looks like a vast improvement over the at-best shaky first season. We will find out how much of an improvement on September 7th.
