According to ScreenRant, Aisha Tyler (Criminal Minds) recently detailed how her character Lana in Archer sought to homage Jessica Walter (Arrested Development) after the star’s passing. After the series finale, Tyler spoke with ScreenRant and opened up about Lana and Malory who Walter played in the series. Malory was the head of a central spy agency who after Walters’ passing was written off the series. In the series, Malory retired with Ron Cadillac, played by fellow late actor Ron Leibman (The Sopranos).
Tyler said to ScreenRant, “We loved her so much, and she was such an extraordinary performer and extraordinary person. To be constantly paying homage to her and the character she created, I think has been a real way of just staying connected with her and keeping the show connected with her. From the very pilot, we knew that the Malory Archer character and her relationship with Sterling, and the way that Jessica played her was going to be something really special. She’s left a big hole at the center of the show, but it’s a glowing hole.”
She continued, “Whenever you think about her and think about what she contributed to the show, and what an incredible comedic actor she was, you’re just filled with a lot of pride, and a lot of joy and gratitude, and having been able to work with a true Hollywood legend. She was just one of those — the character itself, and then Jessica as a person, she was just a firecracker. There’s always layers to her, and there were these reveals that came over the season that just delighted and scandalized us, both in real life and on the show. So, it’s been great to pay homage to her, and I’m sure we’ll continue to do so in the future.”
All 14 seasons of Archer are available to stream on Hulu.
