Adult Swim’s ‘Rick and Morty’ Unveils New Voice Actors

It’s time to get schwifty! A new season of Rick and Morty is here! The coveted show premiered last night for its seventh season on Adult Swim, but with a twist. According to CNN, the zany comedy sci-fi show has new voices for the dynamic duo.

This change is due to the news of the now-dropped domestic violence charges against Rick and Morty’s original voice and co-creator, Justin Roiland (Fish Hooks, Community.) Roiland has also voiced various other supporting characters on the show.

Since Roiland’s leave in January, the new voices are courtesy of Ian Cardoni (Clear History, Grown Ups) and Harry Belden (Chicago Med, Christmas Again.) Fans had no idea who the new voice actors’ were until the first few minutes of the season premiere.

It should be noted that Adult Swim and Cartoon Network share the same parent company, Warner Bros.

The two were cast after a long-winded audition process and thousands of different voice actors. Rick and Morty still has ties to its other co-creator and voice of Birdperson, Dan Harmon, who has worked on shows like Community and Fox’s newest animated series, Krapopolis. Scott Marder (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Unsupervised), the showrunner and executive producer, is still with the show.

Last night’s episode followed Rick and an interesting group of characters trying to hold an intervention for a grief-stricken friend who’s dealing with addiction. Also, Hugh Jackman (The Wolverine, The Greatest Showman) guest stars as a self-obsessed version of himself.

Rick and Morty has been a massive hit since its debut in 2013, with two Emmys to prove it.

It is also listed as “one of the best comedies of the 21st century,” according to The Ringer and GQ. From collaborations with McDonald’s and the video game Fortnite, the show has been big for a decade.

After the third season in 2018, Adult Swim greenlit the show for 70 more episodes following its tremendous success.
