Adam Starks, Tracy Grant Join Together to Create Legal Drama ‘Lace’ for AMC Networks-Owned Streamer UMC

UMC, an AMC Networks-owned streamer dedicated to sharing Black films and content, has put in an order to create six-episode legal drama titled Lace. The series will be created by Adam Starks (On My Block), Tracy Grant (Lincoln Heights) and Kemy Time Productions, according to Deadline.

The series will follow a Los Angeles attorney in her life as a protector of the rich and powerful clients, where she often blurs the lines between right and wrong. Lace is currently casting. Jamal Hill (Brotherly Love), who helmed the Netflix feature Deuces, is being considered as a director for the series. The legal drama was created by Katrina Y. Nelson (The Wake), the co-founder of Kemy Time Productions, along with Michelle Ebony Hardy (One for the Road), Starks and Grant. Nelson and Hardy will serve as co-showrunners to Lace, in addition to executive producing with Starks and Grant. UMC will be represented in the project as executive producers by Brett Dismuke (Note to Self), the chief content creator, and Nikki Love (A House Divided), the vice president of development & production. Anniken Aalbu (The Perfect Exterior) will co-produce with Sean Mik’ael Butler (I Am Legend) and Patrick Strøm (Allodium) from Cultivate Entertainment, who represents Hill, via Deadline.

In a word from Dismuke to Deadline, he said, “UMC has always been a home for Black content creators to have the opportunity to showcase their work. We’ve had the privilege of working with several talented creatives who have developed record-breaking programs for UMC. Now, we are excited to partner with Katrina and Michelle on Lace as they push the envelope and shatter preconceived notions of Black Woman Power.”

Production is slated to begin in March 2021; a premiere date for the series has not been set.
