Actress Carmen Zapata Passes Away at 86

Veteran actor Carmen Zapata passed away Sunday in her Van Nuys home at the age of 86.

According to Deadline, Zapata is the co-founder of the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts in LA. Her career spans six decades and she appeared in such films as the Sister Act series, many TV shows and the original 1940s Oklahoma! Broadway play. During the 1980s Zapata was a regular on NBC’s Santa Barbara, the 1976 series Viva Valdez and PBS’ bilingual kids show Villa Alegre as the mayor. Zapata’s TV credits include Bonanza; The Mod Squad; Adam-12; Marcus Welby, M.D.; Love, American Style; The Streets of San Francisco; The White Shadow; Trapper John, M.D.; Married … With Children and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. Zapata received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003.
