Actor Warwick Davis Speaks Out About Disney+’s Choice To Cancel And Remove ‘Willow’

Developed by Jonathan Kasdan (The First Time, The Big Chill), Willow first premiered on Disney+ in November of 2022. The series was canceled in March 2023, and then completely removed from the streaming platform in May. According to Deadline, Warwick Davis spoke out on X/Twitter about the choices made by Disney+. Davis plays the main character Willow Ufgood in both the Willow television series and the 1988 movie of the same name.

In his post, which can be viewed below, Davis stated, “I meet lovely people on a daily basis who are fans of #Willow, who are the reason the @DisneyPlus Series was made. Please tell me @WaltDisneyCo, what do I say to these subscribers when they ask why they can’t watch the series any more? #embarrassing.”

The television series Willow acts as a sequel to the 1988 movie. The first season revolves around Princess Kit Tanthalos, played by Ruby Cruz (Bottoms, Mare of Easttown), and the quest to find her missing twin brother Prince Airk, played by Dempsey Bryk (The Fight Machine, Marlene). In addition to finding Prince Airk, those on the quest must face the monstrous creatures called the Gales, which have been attacking their kingdom Tir Asleen.  The sorcerer Willow leads the quest, which includes Kit and four others.

The quest includes Elora Danan, played by Ellie Bamber (Nocturnal Animals, Red, White & Royal Blue), Jade Claymore, played by Erin Kellyman (The Green Knight, Top Boy), Prince Graydon, played by Tony Revolori (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Asteroid City), and Thraxus Boorman, played by Amar Chadha-Patel (Dashcam, The Creator).

Despite the cancellation and removal of Willow, Deadline notes that Lucasfilm, the production company that worked to produce the series, still has Willow in their internet library with all of their other productions. This insinuates that Willow could potentially be reconsidered in the future.

Currently, there is no way to stream Willow.
