Actor Nicolas Coster of ‘Santa Barbara’ and ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ Passes Away at 89

Nicolas Coster, who starred in shows such as All My Children, Santa Barbara, and Another World has passed away at the age of 89 years old. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Coster passed away in a Florida hospital on Monday. His daughter, Dinneen Coster, posted on her Facebook saying, “Please remember him as a great artist. He was an actor’s actor! I will always be inspired by him and know how lucky I am to have such a great father!!”

Not only was Coster a soap opera legend, but he also starred in movies. These movies run along the lines of Reds, Stir Crazy, and All the President’s Men. He was well known for his roles such as The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo’s chief of detectives J.E. Carson and other roles such as a millionaire father to Blair Warner played by Lisa Whelchel (Collector’s Call) in The Facts of Life on NBC in the 1980’s.

He was also familiar with the world of Broadway as in 1961 he made his debut and was Lawrence Olivier’s (Wuthering Heights) understudy for the role of Henry II in the play Becket. He was also co-stars with Elizabeth Taylor (Cleopatra) in the play The Little Foxes by Lillian Hellman (The Children’s Hour).

His well-respected and admired career garnered him many awards and recognitions. For his performance of Lionel in Santa Barbara in the years 1986, ’88, ’91, and ’92 he gained Daytime Emmy nominations. He took an Emmy home in 2017 for his role of Mayor Jack Madison on the show The Bay which is available for streaming on Amazon.

Coster’s other acting credits span upon other works including that of Naked City, The Green Hornet, Who’s the Boss?, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Charlie’s Angels, One Day at a Time in L.A. Law, and Cold Case.

He served as an acting teacher at the University of Georgia and was a passionate scuba diver, to which he founded the Challenges Foundation in 1998 to give disabled and underprivileged youth a chance to experience the high sea.
