Former CNN host and actor D.L. Hughley (The D.L Hughley Show, The Hughley’s) tested positive for coronavirus after fainting on stage during a show in Nashville, according to CNN. In statement, Hughley’s publicist noted that the 57-year-old had been dealing with exhaustion after traveling for the entire week. Hughley didn’t know of his diagnosis until he was brought to Saint Thomas Hospital and tests were performed on Friday night after the collapse.
Hughley is best known for being the original host of BET’s comedy show ComicView in the ’90s. He’s also well known for starring in the ABC sitcom The Hughley’s as well as being one of the “Big Four” comedians on The Original Kings of Comedy, which features comedy routines from Steve Harvey (Family Feud), Cedric the Entertainer (Johnson Family Vacation), Bernie Mac (Guess Who), and of course Hughley. In 2008, Hughley also appeared as a host on CNN in a comedic news-show covering global news in politics, entertainment, sports, and pop culture. It was entitled D.L. Hughley Breaks the News. Due to his desire to move to LA and be closer to his family, the show was terminated in 2009.
In an Instagram post, Hughley shared, “I was what they call asymptomatic. I didn’t have flu-like symptoms, I didn’t have shortness of breath, I didn’t have difficulty breathing, I didn’t have a cough, I didn’t have low grade fever. I still don’t have a fever. I didn’t have a loss of smell or taste, apparently I just lost consciousness…Thank you for your prayers and your well-wishes and a few more of them wouldn’t hurt so hopefully I won’t develop symptoms. Maybe this is as bad as it gets,” via CNN.
He is now quarantining in his hotel room for the necessary two weeks.
