Actor Anthony Carrigan Shares How He Found “Real Pathos” Within His ‘Barry’ Character

Actor Anthony Carrigan (Bill and Ted Face the Music) opened up about his time on the final season of the hit HBO show Barry. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anthony Carrigan played the character of Noho Hank, a Chechen gangster who has been on the dark comedy series since season one. Carrigan was known for giving Noho Hank an eccentric energy and a very profound speaking style that is nothing less than entirely unique to him.

Though he was most known for being such a loved character, Noho Hank experienced his fair share of downs such as his lover and partner in crime Cristobal, played by Michael Irby (Last Seen Alive), killed. Noho Hank also met his own end when he himself passed away.

Carrigan has won much acclaim for his portrayal of Noho Hank, so it was only natural that on the exact same day he earned his nomination for his third Emmy for his portrayal of Noho Hank, Carrigan was announced to be playing an upcoming portrayal of Metamorpho in Superman Legacy to be directed by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy). When asked about his latest Emmy nomination, the actor shared that, “Every time is special, honestly. Every time I’m just filled with such joy and appreciation and gratitude. But this one is really special because it’s the final season. It was really a beautiful note to end it on, but it was also really tough to end the show in general, and I think I’m still grieving. This is a nice salve to that wound.”

Carrigan also shared what he missed the most about Noho Hank saying, “So much. Like, honestly. One thing is coming up with sayings [to verbally butcher] and turns of phrases to keep in that little notebook of my mind for Hank. Because I’ll think of some every once in a while and I’m like, “Oh, that’d be so perfect for Hank.” I’ll miss that, for sure.” Watch the final season of Barry streaming on Max.
