ABC’s ‘The Goldbergs’ to End After Season 10

Deadline reported that The Goldbergs will be ending after season 10 on ABC; the series finale will airing in May. This comes as no surprise as people have been discussing how much longer the show can go on for a couple years. It comes from creator Adam F. Goldberg (Schooled, Breaking In)and Sony Pictures TV, and first aired on September 24, 2013, making it the longest-running live-action comedy network series on air.

It is unlikely there will be more sit-coms of this nature, with 10+ seasons and 200+ episodes, which leave’s The Goldbergs as one of the last series of its kind.

The Goldbergs was brought back after ABC signed new deals with original cast members Hayley Orrantia (Christmas is Cancelled, God’s Not Dead 2), Troy Gentile (Nacho Libre, Drillbit Taylor), Sean Giambrone (Clarence, Solar Opposites), and executive producer/star Wendi McLendon-Covey (Reno 911!, Bridesmaids). The series has previously lost cast members George Segal (Look Who’s Taking, Just Shoot Me!) and Jeff Garlin (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Daddy Day Care). Segal died in March due to bypass surgery complications and Garlin left after multiple HR investigations and misconduct allegations.

The comedy series follows the crazy life of the Goldberg family during the Reagan Era in the 1980s.The Goldbergs was based on creator Goldberg’s life growing up. Goldberg was also the showrunner until the seventh season and he was succeeded by Chris Bishop and Alex Barnow.

The Goldbergs has had a reliable ratings performance for ABC since it initially exceeded expectations in its Tuesday 9 PM slot for the first season, causing it to move to ABC’s Wednesday 8 PM signature comedy slot.

The series is produced by Happy Madison and Dough Robinson Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television. Executive producers include Doug Robinson (For Life, Rules of Engagement), Anette Davis (Men at Work, Frankie and Johnny), Mike Sikowitz (The Class, Welcome to the Family), David Guarascio (Happy Family, Imaginary Mary), McLendon-Covey, Barnow, and Bishop.

A Million Little Things is also ending this season. Abbot Elementary is the only ABC series currently renewed for next season, but the Grey’s Anatomy – Station 19 and The Rookie – The Rookie: Feds franchises as well as The Good Doctor and The Good Lawyer are ex[ected to be picked up.
