ABC’s upcoming family drama series has added another cast member. According to Deadline, Katya Martin (My First Miracle, The Affair) has joined Promised Land, the network’s sprawling series that follows two Latinx families in California’s prestigious Sonoma Valley. The series comes from writer Matt Lopez (Race to Witch Mountain, Bedtime Stories).
According to Deadline, the series is focused on the Sandoval family and their vineyard empire. Martin plays Juana, an immigrant who flees her native El Salvador for a better life. With dreams of becoming a teacher, she and her sister, Rosa, arrive in southern California. They eventually find work at the Sandoval’s Heritage House Vineyard. Martin joins a long list of previously announced cast members including leads John Ortiz (Peppermint, American Gangster) and Andres Velez (Night Teeth, Coyote Lake).
Deadline reports Ortiz is set to play Joe Sandoval, the patriarch, and owner of the family’s vineyard. He and his wife, Cecilia Suárez’s (The House of Flowers, Perfect Strangers) Lettie, share their empire’s wealth with their five children. Augusto Aguilera (Too Old to Die Young, The Predator) plays Mateo Sandoval, Joe’s stepson, and the general manager of the vineyard. He is joined by Tonatiuh (Drunk Bus, Get the Life) who will play his brother Antonio. The eldest daughter, Veronica, will be played by Christina Ochoa (Valor, Animal Kingdom). Mariel Molino (Quarter Life Coach, Crazy for Change) will play Camila Sandoval, the family’s youngest daughter.
Velez is set to play Carlos Rincón, via Deadline. Carlos is a fellow immigrant working at the vineyard and a potential love interest for Martin’s Juana.
According to Deadline, the series is executive produced by Lopez and director Michael Cuesta (Kill the Messenger, American Assassin). The two are joined by Adam Kolbrenner (Free Guy, The Tomorrow War) under Lit Entertainment Group. ABC Signature will produce as well.
