Holly Robinson Peete (Meet the Peetes, The Talk) will join ABC comedy American Housewife for its fifth season, according to Deadline. Peete will appear in a recurring role opposite the series star, Katy Mixon (Mike & Molly, Eastbound & Down).
According to Deadline, Peete has had a storied career on television. Before she was an original co-host on CBS’ The Talk, she portrayed Judy Hoffs on the Johnny Depp-led 1980s cop series, 21 Jump Street. In the 90s, she starred with Mark Cooper (Talkin’ Dirty After Dark, The Poof Point) on ABC’s Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper, and was part of three couples on WB’s For Your Love. In 2016, she and former NFL star-husband, Rodney Peete, starred in their family reality series For Peete’s Sake for two seasons on OWN.
On American Housewife, Peete will be Tami, a close friend of Mixon’s Katie Otto, according to Deadline. Years before living in Westport, Katie viewed Tami as a mommy mentor, helping the then-first time mother. Tami and her husband’s kids were off at college, so she had experience and wisdom Katie could live by. Now, Tami has moved to Westport with an eight-year-old of her own. Katie sees this as an opportunity to assist her friend in this chapter of unexpected motherhood.
Created by Sarah Dunn (The Big Love, Secrets to Happiness), American Housewife is about a regular family living among overachieving counterparts in a Connecticut town, according to Deadline. In addition to Mixon, the show stars Deidrich Bader (The Drew Carey Show, Batman: The Brave and the Bold) as Katy’s husband Greg, Meg Donnelly (Zombies 2, The Broken Ones) as eldest daughter Taylor, and Julia Butters (Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood, Term Life) as daughter Anna-Kat. Co-stars include Ali Wong (Always Be My Maybe, Tuca & Bertie) as Doris and Carly Hughes (Brampton, Insatiable) as Angela. Jerry Lambert (Smother, Bad Teacher) and Peyton Meyer (Girl Meets World, Gibby) have appeared in recurring roles.
According to Deadline, season five is currently in production, with Peete beginning to film next week.
