The return dates for ABC’s scripted and unscripted series have been announced! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Abbott Elementary and Grey’s Anatomy are among the series returning. There will also be a new 911 series joining the network in early 2024.
Now that SAG-AFTRA is out of the woods with the strike ending on Nov. 9 and writer rooms being open since September, more and more networks have been given the green light to fire up production.
Some returning unscripted series include American Idol, Judge Steve Harvey, The Bachelor, and a 20/20-esque true crime show for its midseason lineup.
Most series are set to return after Thanksgiving, and scripted series will see a cut in the number of episodes for each season from the typical 16 to 22 to 10-13, depending on the show.
Series on ABC that make up their Wednesday comedy block will be the first to return. This includes The Conners, Abbott Elementary, Not Dead Yet, and Judge Steve Harvey, debuting on Feb.7, with Abbott Elementary getting a one-hour spotlight. ABC has just three half-hour comedy series scheduled and one 9:30 p.m. slot open, and will later announce how they plan to fill it.
Tuesdays and Thursdays nights are reserved for ABC’s dramas. The drama series Will Trent is set to kick off its second year of broadcast on Feb.20, followed by The Rookie and The Good Doctor. Conversely, Thursday’s lineup will debut on March 14, starting with 911 (moving from Fox), Grey’s Anatomy, and Station 19.
On Jan.22, the cult favorite series The Bachelor will return to ABC’s Monday nights, followed by a new 20/20 true crime series (the name has yet to be announced.)
The Sunday schedule will feature American Idol, which premieres on Feb.18, and ABC’s News’ What Would You Do? Friday will still broadcast Shark Tank and 20/20.
