ABC Renews ‘The Good Doctor’ For a Seventh Season

Deadline reports that hit medical drama The Good Doctor has been renewed for a seventh season. This season the series is ranked the #1 entertainment series on Mondays at 10 p.m. in adults aged 18-49, tied with Quantum Leap on NBC.

The Good Doctor matched its highest-rated telecast this season on April 10, with an episode that received a 40% increase in viewership among adults 18-49 over the week before. The episode drew 7.9 million total viewers across digital and linear platforms after seven days, making it the most-watched telecast since the series’ season premiere in October of 2022.

The sixth season of The Good Doctor has drawn 9.1 million total viewers after 35 days of viewing across digital and linear platforms.

The proposed spinoff series, The Good Lawyer, is still in talks and will likely be picked up. It would star Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives, When They See Us) and Kennedy McMann (This is Not a Love Letter, Nancy Drew).

The Good Doctor first aired on ABC on September 25, 2017 and follows a young autistic surgeon, Shaun Murphy, who relocates from his quiet country life to San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital to join the surgical unit. It is executive produced by Freddie Highmore (Bates Motel, The Vault), who plays Shaun, Shawn Williamson (The Final Storm, Stoic), and co-showrunners David Shore (Law & Order, House) and Liz Friedman (Jessica Jones, Orange is the New Black).

The series also stars  Antonia Thomas (Misfits, Lovesick) as Dr. Claire Browne, Paige Spara (Home Again, Kevin From Work) as Lea Dilallo, Fiona Gubelmann (Royally Ever After, Wilfred) as Dr. Morgan Reznick, Will Yun Lee (Altered Carbon, Hawaii Five-0) as Dr. Alex Park, Richard Schiff (Dr. Dolittle, West Wing) as Dr. Aaron Glassman, Hill Harper (Limitless, How It Really Happened) as Dr. Marcus Andrews, Bria Samoné Henderson (The Donor Party, Mrs. America) as Dr. Jordan Allen, Christina Chang (No Ordinary Family, L.A. Dragnet) as Dr. Audrey Lim, Brandon Larracuente (13 Reasons Why, Bloodline) as Dr. Daniel Perez, and Noah Galvin (Booksmart, The Real O’Neals) as Dr. Asher Wolke.

The season six finale of The Good Doctor will air on ABC on Monday, May 1.
