ABC Gives ‘The Astronaut Wives Club’ 10-Episode Order

ABC will add an original drama series, The Astronaut Wives Club, next summer with a 10-episode straight-to-series order.

According to Deadline, the series will join other drama Mistresses, which is returning for a second season this summer. ABC Studios is producing both series. The new drama comes from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire and Michael London’s Groundswell Productions.

The drama is based on Lily Koppel’s best-selling novel from last summer and the project has been on fast track development since October. The network is eying a start date of February or March. Previously, The Astronaut Wives Club received a traditional pilot order but was upped to a 10-episode pickup and may be marketed as a limited “event” series this summer.

Savage wrote the drama, her first since co-creating Gossip Girl, with Schwartz. The 1969-set drama shares the story of the women behind the American heroes at the height of the space race. Savage, Schwartz and Fake Empire’s President of Television Len Goldstein will serve as executive producers with London.  Groundswell’s president of production Janice Williams, who introduced the project to London, will most likely produce.
