ABC has officially confirmed the release window for season three of High Potential, however the upcoming season will premiere with a major scheduling change. According to Screen Rant, the crime drama series will move from its usual fall release schedule to a midseason debut in 2027 as part of ABC’s upcoming 2026-2027 television lineup.
High Potential stars Kaitlin Olson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Finding Dory) as Morgan Gillroy, a single mother with an exceptionally high IQ who helps solve crimes alongside the Los Angeles Police Department. The scheduling shift comes shortly after the series’ season two finale, which includes the apparent exit of a major character and several behind-the-scenes production changes.
ABC reportedly made the scheduling adjustments in an effort to avoid the lengthy breaks that impacted the series’ first two seasons. Ari Goldman, ABC’s senior vice president of content strategy and scheduling, explained that the network hopes the move will create a more consistent viewing experience for audiences after previous interruptions caused by holiday programming and scheduling conflicts.
Season three will also introduce two new showrunners, Nora Zuckerman (Poker Face, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) and Lilla Zuckerman (Poker Face, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), following the departure of longtime executive producer Todd Harthan (Rosewood, The Resident). The Zuckermans are best known for their work on Poker Face and Hulu’s previously planned Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel project.
The series also stars Daniel Sunjata (One for the Money, The Devil Wears Prada), Javicia Leslie (Batwoman, Double Life), Deniz Akdeniz (The Flight Attendant, Dumb Money), Amirah J (Artifice, Shameless), Matthew Lamb (Smile, Only Murders in the Building), and Judy Reyes (Scrubs, Smile).
In addition to the scheduling change, the series is also expected to move forward without Steve Howey (Bride Wars, Something Borrowed) as Captain Wagner following the events of the season two finale. Despite the character’s apparent exit, the finale reportedly left the door open for a possible future guest appearance.
