Two weeks after ABC trimmed the episode order for Notorious, the network has made decision about another one of their under-performing shows. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Conviction will be capped at 13 episodes.
The show will air in its normal timeslot this coming Monday, though it’s unclear as to whether the show’s remaining episodes will air in that same timeslot. If the show does get moved, it’s also unclear what night and what timeslot the show would move to.
The show stars Hayley Atwell as a former first daughter who takes a job reviewing cases where justice may not have been completely served after a fallout in her personal life happens. This is Atwell’s second show to be canceled at ABC after Agent Carter was canceled by the network in May.
The network announced the capping of the episodes early in the night on Tuesday, when more people were consumed with watching election coverage than paying attention to the fate of the show.
Since the show premiered on Oct. 3, it has never been rated above a 1.0 in the key demographic of 18 to 49. This past Monday, the show was watched by 3.64 million viewers and scored a series low of a 0.6 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic, according to TV by the Numbers.
ABC has retained the cast options for the actors on the show until May in the case that the show does get renewed, though it’s unlikely that it will happen.
Notorious and Conviction were the two weak points of ABC’s schedule as the network’s other new shows that aired in the fall, Designated Survivor, Speechless and American Housewife, have all been picked up for full seasons.
Looking forward to the midseason, ABC has a lot of shows that need placed on the schedule, including the time-travel drama Time After Time and the newest drama from ShondaLand Still Star-Crossed. Other shows coming to the midseason include season six of Scandal, which will premiere on Jan. 19, the second season of The Catch and new comedies Downward Dog and Imaginary Mary.
Of the shows premiering in the midseason, Scandal is the only one that has a premiere date. It’s likely that ABC will be announcing the premiere dates of the other shows soon.
