It looks like the halls of Abbott will be open once again for the 2022-2023 school year. According to Variety, the hit ABC mockumentary, Abbott Elementary, will return for a second season this fall. The series is currently on hiatus and is set to air its remaining episodes starting March 22.
The classroom comedy has been praised by critics and viewers. The series trends weekly on Twitter upon new episodes airing and maintained a 100 percent on RottenTomatoes since its premiere in December.
Abbott Elementary has also broken records at ABC, being the first comedy to quadruple ratings after its premiere and topping the Modern Family finale for the highest-rated comedy episode at the network.
The series took to social media to announce the news, posting a “memo” by principal Ava Coleman (played by Janelle James) telling the staff (and fans) at Abbott that the camera crew will be returning for the next school year.
“The camera crew I hired to showcase all that I’ve made happen at our beautiful school thinks I’m a star,” the memo reads. “With that being said, it is with great pleasure that I share that they’ll be returning for the 2022-2023 school year! That’s right — Abbott Elementary Season Two is coming to a screen near you.”
Created by lead Quinta Brunson (Big Mouth), Abbott Elementary follows the day-to-day lives of the teachers and faculty at an underfunded Philadelphia school. Alongside Brunson and James, the series stars Sheryl Lee Ralph (Moesha), Tyler James Williams (Everybody Hates Chris), Chris Perfetti (In the Dark), and Lisa Ann Walter (The Parent Trap).
