ABC Announces Development for ‘black-ish’ Spin-off Entitled ‘old-ish’ Starring Laurence Fishburne

The ABC network has announced the development for another spin-off series, titled old-ish, of its sitcom black-ish starring Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix, Apocalypse Now), according to Screen Rant. This announcement pairs with the parent show’s other spin-off series in mixed-ish and grown-ish. The parent shows black-ish is created by Kenya Barris (#blackAF) and premiered in 2014 on ABC and has amassed 141 episodes over its six-season run. The original series is executive produced by the likes of Barris, Fishburne, Larry Wilmore (Insecure, The Daily Show), Anthony Anderson (The Departed), Helen Sugland (The Snowy Day), and many more. 

Black-ish centers on the Johnson family life as they navigate through personal experiences and other socio-political topics while living in upper-middle-class life. The series stars Anderson as Andrew Jonhson, Tracee Ellis Ross (Girlfriends, The High Note) as his wife Rainbow Johnson, Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish) as Zoey Johnson, Marsai Martin (Little) as Diane Johnson, Miles Brown (Drunk History) as Jack Johnson, and Marcus Scribner (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) as Andre Jr. 

The spin-off series is set to feature Fishburne reprising his role as Andre’s father Earl and his wife Ruby Johnson who is portrayed by the returning Jenifer Lewis (Cast Away, The Princess and the Frog). Old-ish will follow this marriage in its second run and the new life they have built for themselves. Fishburne and Lewis will act as an executive producer and a producer, respectively for the upcoming program. Currently, there is no information available revolving around production.
