‘Abbott Elementary’ Renewed For Fourth Season

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show Abbott Elementary has been renewed for a fourth season on ABC. This comes only days after the third season, delayed because of the strikes, was released. William Stanford Davis (Holly Day), who plays Mr. Johnson, announced the news on Saturday during the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.

Season three came back on Wednesday, said The Hollywood Reporter. The ratings that the third season came with were comparable to the second season. The show earned 2.8 million total viewers as well as a 0.5 in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic for the first part. The show earned 2.8 million total viewers as well as a 0.5 in the advertiser-coveted adults demographic, which includes adults from ages 18 to 49, for the first part of season two. The comedy is a co-production between Disney’s 20th Television and Warner Bros. Television. In this co-production, co-creators and co-showrunners Justin Halpern (Surviving Jack) and Patrick Schumacker (Harley Quinn) have an overall deal.

The Hollywood Reporter  also noted that the series was originally devised by Quinta Brunson (Miracle Workers), who earned an Emmy for the show, as an animated series. However, after meeting with Halpern and Schumacker, it was turned into a live-action series. The pair also made the suggestion that Brunson star in the series in addition to creating a role that was inspired by Brunson’s mother.

According to IMDB, Abbott Elementary is about “A group of dedicated, passionate teachers — and a slightly tone-deaf principal — find themselves thrown together in a Philadelphia public school where, despite the odds stacked against them, they are determined to help their students succeed in life.”

The cast includes Tyler James Williams (Everybody Hates Chris), Janelle James (The Final Straw), Lisa Ann Walter (The Parent Trap), Chris Perfetti (The Surrogate), and Sheryl Lee Ralph (Instant Mom). Executive producers include Brunson, Halpern, Schumacker, said The Hollywood Reporter

In addition to the value that the show already brings to ABC, Abbott Elementary is also the first series that the network has renewed for the 24-25 broadcast season. This news comes straight from The Hollywood Reporter
