ABC’s Abbott Elementary has tripled the network’s ratings within the finale’s seven days of delayed viewing from DVRs, Hulu and other platforms, according to Variety. Over its debut season, the series has become ABC’s highest-rated new comedy among adults aged 18-49.
In its first nine episodes, Abbott Elementary averaged 8 million total viewers, yielding a 349% rise in ratings and increasing viewers by 2.9 million. The series has already been renewed for a second season.
Abbott Elementary, which starred Quinta Brunson (Big Mouth), Janelle James (The Standups), Tyler James Williams (Everybody Hates Chris), Lisa Ann Walter (The Parent Trap) and Sheryl Lee Ralph (Moesha), centered around a group of passionate teachers at an underfunded Philadelphia public school who are still dedicated to help their students succeed inside and outside the classroom.
The first season of Abbott Elementary marked an immense success for ABC, shown by its April 12 finale. Its 13-episode season became the network’s highest-rated comedy since Modern Family and became the most-tweeted comedy show of the year with more than 1.5 million tweets as of March 18.
