‘Abbott Elementary’ Advances With The Most Nominations For The Critics Choice Awards

Abbott Elementary has pushed its way to the top of nominations amongst television nominees for the 2023 Critics Choice Awards. The mockumentary has earned itself six nominations throughout different categories. These nominations followed the great success of the second season which aired September 21, 2022 on ABC and available to be streamed on Hulu.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series has been nominated for best comedy series amongst many other nominations. Quinta Brunson who plays Janine Teagues is nominated for Best Actress in Comedy Series. Chris Perfetti (The Surrogate, In the Dark) and Tyler James Williams (Everybody Hates Chris, Lab Rats) both are nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, and Janelle James (The Standups, Central Park) and Sheryl Lee Ralph (Moesha, Instant Mom) are nominated for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. These nominations have been well earned as the series has been one of ABC’s top comedies, and the Season two premiere established the show as one of ABC’s highest-rated comedies in the past three years.

Abbott Elementary is a mockumentary style comedy series like The Office, Parks and Recreation, and What We Do in the Shadows, but unlike these other shows Abbott Elementary focuses on the lives of teachers at a Philadelphia public elementary school. It follows these dedicated teachers through their daily school lives as they are determined to help students have a fulfilling school experience although the odds are stacked against them.

Although the series has many nominations, it is still going up against many other series such as HBO’s Barry and FX’s The Bear. But one series competing against Abbott Elementary for the most nominees is AMC’s Better Call Saul with five nominations in the drama categories. Catch these and many more nominees at the 2023 Critics Choice Awards on January 15.
