According to Screenrant, the highly anticipated next chapter in the Game of Thrones saga, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will have a noticeable missing element that is wildly known throughout the franchise. The element in question is the elaborated and geographically-minded opening title sequence, instead it will receive a simple titled card.
The plot of the the series so far will focus on the journey of Ser Duncan the Tall, played by Peter Claffey (Bad Sisters, Harry Wild) and Aegon V Targaryen, played by Dexter Sol Ansell (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, The Moor), nicknamed Dunk and Egg, who traverse the lands of Westeros. Stated by Screenrant, the series is directly based on the work of George R.R. Martin’s (A Dream of Spring, A Song of Ice and Fire) novella of the same name.
Reported by Screenrant, the series showrunner, Ira Parker (House of the Dragon, The Never) goes on to speak with in an interview with Entertainment Weekly about the surprising change and states,”All decisions came down to Dunk, trying to channel the type of person he is into every aspect of this show, even the title sequence. The title sequences on the original [Game of Thrones] and House of Dragon are big and epic and incredible. Ramin Djawadi’s score is orchestral and large and beautiful. That’s not really Dunk’s M.O. He’s plain and he’s simple and he’s to-the-point. He doesn’t have a lot of flash to him.”
He further goes into detail with Screenrant,”nobody’s thinking about magic. This could basically be 14th century Britain. This is hard nose, grind it out, gritty, medieval knights, cold with a really light, hopeful touch. It’s a wonderful place to be. We are ground up in this series, we are starting right at the bottom. We’re not with the lords and ladies, the kings and queens.”
While waiting on further information on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms which is set to premiere sometime in 2026, Games of Thrones and House of the Dragons are available to stream on HBO Max.
