The newly released spin off series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms opens up with a surprising change. According to Screenrant, the Game of Thrones universe is famous for opening up long and well crafted opening, but this series seems to ditch it and cut towards a scene showcasing one of the protagonists, Ser Duncan the Tall, played by Peter Claffey (Harry Wild, Bad Sisters), answering the call of nature.
Reported by Screenrant, the series creator, Ira Parker (The Last Ship, The Nevers) explains in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about the creative change,”so in the script it reads, ‘Duncan hears the hero theme in his head’ — which wasn’t necessarily going to be the Thrones theme at that moment”. The decision to replace the iconic opening may indicate that the series will move away from the prophecy aspect seen in the previous two installments and instead concentrate more on the human element.
He continues his statement with Screenrant about Duncan’s upcoming journey and about his wanting to be something greater,”he was going to hear that call to greatness. It’s a little scary and you feel like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna be the guy. I’m gonna do it!’ He picks up the sword. He’s thinking about it.“
Stated by Screenrant, it all comes that the series is an underdog story about Duncan and his squire Egg, played by Dexter Sol Ansell (The Moor, Robin and the Hoods) who is secretly Prince Aegon Targaryen traversing the lands of Westeros and on a journey of self discovery. Along their journey, the duo will encounter members of the great houses, and in turn make friends or enemies with them.
Viewers can stream the first episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, with new episodes release weekly every sunday. Additionally all seasons of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragons are available to stream as well.
