‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’ Set to Return on April 8; HBO Releases Teaser

It’s been a year since the ladies of A Black Lady Sketch Show made viewers laugh out loud with funny sketches, cultural references, and outlandish jokes. The sketch comedy series is set to return for a third season with HBO releasing a teaser for the new season.

The new teaser shows Robin Thede (InsecureBad Hair) doing a sketch where a woman is doing standup with a bad, yet hilariously executed Wakanda joke. The teaser also confirmed that the show will be returning on April 8.

Created by Thede and executive produced by Issa Rae (InsecureThe Photograph), A Black Lady Sketch Show features primarily Black women in comedy as they perform various sketches written and directed by Black women. Along with Thede, the series also features Ashley Nicole Black (Bob’s BurgersFull Frontal with Samantha Bee), Gabrielle Dennis (Luke CageRosewood), and newcomer Sky Townsend, who will be promoted to series regular after being featured on season two.

Laci Mosley (iCarlyFlorida Girls) stepped down from the series due to scheduling conflicts. Quinta Brusnon (Abbott Elementary) was a series regular on season one before stepping down from the show for season two.

Like the previous two seasons, season three of A Black Lady Sketch Show will be star-studded with guest stars. According to Collider, stars such as Ava DuVernay (SelmaA Wrinkle in Time), MJ Rodriguez (Pose), Raven-Symoné (Raven’s HomeThe Cheetah Girls), Kel Mitchell (Kenan & KelAll That), and Essence Atkins (Half & HalfMarlon) are among many who will be appearing next season.

A Black Lady Sketch Show has received praise from both critics and viewers. The first two seasons were met with critical acclaim. The series has received a total of six Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Variety Sketch Series, making it the first Black women-led series to be nominated for the category.

A Black Lady Sketch Show is set to return on April 8 on HBO and HBO Max. Check out the teaser below.
